Title: Can listen to it over and over. Remaster is good
Review: Growing up on classic rock, I’m a fan of almost all late 70’s, early 80’s rock. I saw Kansas on this tour and it was a great show! Had this on cassette and played the crap out of it! So glad to find this remastered and at a decent price! A few years ago, the original CD before remastering was going for over $80!!!To me, all the songs are good and one song flows into the next. Is classic Kansas sound and I really didn’t know it was a different singer until I saw the show. I didn’t know it was a Christian album either until everybody said it was. I remember it playing on the radio and “Play the Game Tonight” video on MTV and is really just a great rock album by a great group! I also bought Point of No Return after this years ago and the songs on No Return were more Christian to me. I like Vinyl Confessions better. The playing is tight and on the mark. The songs are great and the singing matches the songs. As far as the remaster, sounds VERY good to me. Yes it’s compressed (highs and lows are edited out, like MP3 Vs. CDs) but not enough to take away from the fresher, brighter, and more polished sound the remaster has. Kansas has always been more treble sounding anyway, not heavy deep drums and bass. I’m a drummer and love the remaster edition. I bought the remastered CD new off Amazon from a different seller for just over $12! If you can get for under $20 or $30, then it’s well worth it in my eyes.Great Kansas and rock CD!! I love the songs and the remaster and is in heavy rotation in my CD player! Brings me back to those early 80’s classic rock days and is just a great CD to listen to! Even without all the new singer and Christian rock debate, It REALLY is just a great 80’s rock album that you want to play over and over!! It holds up EXTREMELY well! I hope this helps.

Review: VINYL CONFESSIONS is one of my favorite KANSAS albums. I wouldgive this a higher rating if STEVE WALSH was the singer for it.I’m not the biggest JOHN ELEFANTE fan. He sounds like STEVE WALSHin his lower range, but he sounds like a little fairy in hisupper range, which I find highly annoying. He was also nowherenear the songwriter WALSH was in his hay-day. That being said,I think VINYL CONFESSIONS is a very good KANSAS album. I wasn’ttoo fond of the horns at first, but they grew on me. I reallyhated the track DIAMONDS AND PEARLS at first, but I now thinkit’s a terrific song. A bit different, that tune, but stillhighly likable. The classical side of KANSAS shows up on theopening track PLAY THE GAME TONIGHT, CHASING SHADOWS and the al-bum’s closing track, the progressive hard rocker CROSSFIRE. Thewonderful hard rock side of KANSAS shows up on such meaty trackslike FAIR EXCHANGE( which also features an harmonica!), WINDOWSand BORDERLINE. Steinhardt is way underused on this as a leadvocalist, showing up only on a few lines for CROSSFIRE, but hisviolin shows up just enough just to remind people that we werestill in KANSAS! My favorite songs include the slightly disco-ishRIGHT AWAY, the cool prog rocker CROSSFIRE and the rock tuneWINDOWS.BORDERLINE has a monster guitar riff to it, tho’ thesong kind of wimps out on the refrain. The overall production ismuch better on this than it’s predecessor AUDIOVISIONS and Ithink it’s a more consistent album. There are many very enjoyablesongs here!

Title: Classic underrated album
Review: Vinyl Confessions was the first Kansas album I ever heard. We had it recorded onto a cassette (which I still have, but it’s been recorded over for years). I suppose nostalgia hit me and I wanted to revisit Vinyl Confessions, so I decided to purchase it. An underrated album (in my opinion), I would say it’s my favorite Kansas album, probably because I love eighties music and it was my intro to the group. I like all the songs and there’s not a bad one here. My favorites are “Right Away,” “Fair Exchange,” “Chasing Shadows,” and “Crossfire.” Many reviews of this album talk about Kansas having a Christian slant here, and, according to the liner notes in the album, John Elefante confirms this as the reason why Steve Walsh left the group. As a Christian myself, I never thought about that too much, but it’s there, like in “Diamonds and Pearls,” where they talk about how the things of this world that we see as precious and valuable will ultimately fade away. This album was remastered in 2011 with new liner notes. The only difference here for me was the order of the songs, which my brother rearranged when he recorded it back in the eighties, with “Cross Fire” (shouldn’t that be one word – Crossfire?) opening the album and “Play the Game Tonight,” closing it. I would have appreciated it if the lyrics were included. They went to the trouble of giving us new liner notes and I love reading those, but I also would have appreciated the lyrics to all the songs. Still, that doesn’t affect my enjoyment or rating of this album. If you like Kansas and eighties music, then pick this one up.

Title: Progression
Review: Kansas lead the American prog rock movement. The albums before this captured a fresh way of looking at the movement and provided two huge hits in Carry on my Wayward Son and Dust in the Wind. But when thinking of prog you expect change and growth and this is exactly what you get with this album. Steve Walsh left for solo work and not caring for the changes in the lead writer Kerry Livgren.Highest compliment is the tightness of the music. Just beautiful. Great lyrics. Only slightly down on the vocals John Elfante felt rushed a bit in some of the songsHighly recommend

Review: I have recently started to listern to Kansas via albums Leftoverture, Point Of No Return, The Essential Kansas and the live recording Two For The Show.It has taken me sometime to warm to their type of rock music which is often keyboard driven with guitars, strong lead vocals, harmonies and excellent violin playing.I understand that in the early 1980s Kerry Livgren embraced Christianity and other band members did the same or were not adverse to Kerry’s faith affecting their work. However lead singer, Steve Walsh, decided this was not for him.To me Vinyl Confessions presents a Kansas with more substance, however the album does not take a heavy approach due to their new found beliefs. So their original strengths remain plus some deeper spiritual truths.Outstanding track is the closer, Crossfire.Like a number of Kansas albums this one awaits remastering and bonus tracks would also be welcome !

Review: This album always gets put down. No Steve Walsh , too religious etc etc. I love Steve and i hate religion (all of it) but it does not affect my enjoyment of one of the best melodic rock albums I’ve ever heard. The production is superb , the songs are superb. There is less progressive leanings of the earlier Kansas work but this album is very varied. If you judge it on it’s own merits and don’t compare it to Leftoverture etc etc and if you love melodic rock and AOR there’s a good chance you’ll love this. There are some religious lyrics but they are just one man’s view. I love the band Black Widow and they sing about the devil and i don’t like him either. Listen to the music , it’s great.
