Title: An extraordinary story of the resilience of women!
Review: The Mapmakerâs Daughter is a beautiful story told in two timelines, the present of an antique map sellerâs daughter and the past of a mapmakerâs daughter in 1600. The story intertwines with similarities between the two women.Robyn is the daughter in the present century who had suffered a loss when her husband was lost at sea while Frieda in the past has also suffered from loss of her parents by warring factions. These two women meet through the discovery of a map drawn by Frieda. When Robyn researches the history of this old map she uncovers not only Friedaâs struggles but also her own. Robyn discovers that she is stronger than she ever imagined. This was a beautiful and unforgettable story rich in history and detail of these two women. It was an extraordinary read that I highly recommend.

Title: Wonderful Historical & Present Time Fiction Story!
Review: This was a wonderful story of Freida, Willem, and their son Jacob. Also, Robyn, her dad, and friend Sam. It has different time frames. One in 15th-16th century, which was Frieda, Willem, and Jacob. And one in the present time, but in 2022, with Robyn, her dad, and Sam. Freida is a cartographer/mapmaker, but she is a mother and wife, running her household. She is a woman who in this time sheâs in usually a woman would not be doing these type things. They were thought that they couldnât be thinkers or have an education or have a career. But Freida made a name for herself with the beautiful and accurate maps she created. Jacob was her son and she loved him deeply. She was a real mama bear and when you read a certain passage in the book you will know why I say thisâ¦â¦Robyn, in 2022, has come home to live with her dad and help him with his shop. He has come across a map that he thinks Robyn will love to investigate. And thatâs what she does. She puts a lot of work in trying to find out all about this beautiful, wonderful mapâ¦â¦This is a wonderful, intriguing story. I really liked it a lot. I hope if you decide to read it as well that you will enjoy it too. Thank you to #NetGalley and the publishers, Avon, and the author, Clare Marchant, for the opportunity to read and review, #TheMapmakersDaughter , with my honest thoughts and opinions.

Title: A Well Crafted Story
Review: The Mapmaker’s Daughter has just enough of ‘everything’ to be a thoughtful and engrossing read. The historical aspects are presented with sufficient color to add depth to the storyline without verbal clutter. Cartography and Navigation topics also have ‘just enough’ substance to be interesting without overwhelming a non-nautical reader.Characters are well generally well developed. Noteably, the Spanish Ambassador certainly emerges as a 16th century Darth Vader; while Queen Elizabeth’s Spy Master turns out to be one of the ‘Good Guys’.If you like stories that build in tempo and have a happy end, bursting with potential, The Mapmaker’s Daughter may be your kid of book.

Title: good historical fiction
Review: We are all self-centered but for me the two protagonists in The Map Makerâs daughter were a bit too much so. Though both recognized their short-comings by the end of the book, it seemed a bit too slow in coming for me. But the book is well-written and very well researched. All-in-all, an interesting read.

Title: The past and present meet
Review: The Mapmaker’s Daughter gives a detailed perspective on life in the 1800s. A story of pirates and the Queen of England, it is easy to place yourself in that era. It is well written and enjoyable. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good story, with a little mystery.

Review: I very much enjoyed this book. It was well-written and provided historical and some scientific information. It kept me interested throughout the read. Although some parts were heartbreaking, I don’t feel that word totally describes the book because personal victory was also involved.

Review: This is the first book by Clare Marchant that I’ve read, and it was very well worth the wait. The story has a split timeline, the greater part of which is about Freida, the daughter of a well known cartographer in the Netherlands in the dying years of Spanish rule there. Her husband is the master and owner of the Firefly, and is not averse to some gentle piracy himself. Her nationality and her undoubted talents take her to London, and into the ambit of the Queen, Elizabeth, and the personalities of her court, including John Dee, Lord Burleigh and Sir Francis Walsingham. In modern times, her tale is taken up by Robyn, a yachtsman’s widow, and her struggles to put her past behind her.For me, the entire narative had much greater charm than one might expect – as a retired ship’s captain and a long term lover of maps and charts, and as one who has spent many years in Holland I could relate to a very large part of the story. A great read, packed with details and with notable characters – both heroes and villains!!
